Vaginismus

Some women experience discomfort when penetration is attempted during vaginal sexual intercourse. The muscles surrounding the vaginal entrance tighten involuntarily which makes penetration impossible. Some women experience a painful burning sensation when penetration is attempted.

This can be extremely distressing and may impact negatively upon sexual relationships and wellbeing. Some women experience vaginismus when they try to insert a tampon, or when they attend for a cervical smear and disclose their concerns to a healthcare professional. For some women vaginismus can occur even when vaginal penetration has previously been possible and enjoyable.

Vaginismus can occur due to several reasons. I can help you to overcome and manage your feelings around penetration.
