Hello, I'm Debbie, I am so happy you are here.
Working together and talking about your concerns can open the door to a more fulfilling life
So who am I, Debbie Brittain?
I am an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking psychosexual therapist who enjoys providing high quality psychosexual therapy. Throughout my varied career, which started 30 years ago as a Registered Nurse and shortly after as a Midwife, I have had a strong interest in the management of sexual health and psychosexual difficulties. From experience these difficulties are often hidden and under reported due to embarrassment despite impacting significantly on all aspects of health and wellbeing.
My focus is to provide a combination of therapy using techniques based around behaviour and thinking patterns.
I moved into higher education ……. Senior lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire. Here, I delivered several programmes focusing on the sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing of women. During this time, I qualified as a contraceptive nurse and cervical smear taker. I find these skills are invaluable to refer to if clients have fertility, gynaecological, contraception, menstrual and menopause concerns. I have a master’s degree in Sexual Health. For this my dissertation focused on the ‘sexual health needs of women after childbirth.’
This is a particular area of interest as sexual intimacy isn’t often discussed with women during pregnancy or after childbirth.
I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy in 2020 and am registered with the College of Sexual & Relationship Therapists. I have a special interest in the treatment of vaginismus, painful intercourse , loss of desire and arousal disorders. I appreciate how difficult it can be to talk about sensitive sexual issues which can be overcome with the appropriate diagnosis, treatment, and therapy.
I provide a combination of therapy, I teach different techniques around behaviour and thinking patterns which are helpful. As part of the treatment for common sexual difficulties I may give you specifically designed exercises to work through in your own time and we can evaluate your progress together.

I have known Debbie for many years initially when she worked at the University of Central Lancashire and more recently as a Psychosexual therapy trainee and qualified therapist. Debbie has always been professional and personable with the interests of her client being paramount. Her client reported outcomes and feedback reflected the positive impact she had on the lives of those she treated and her ability to form caring and safe relationships with her clients.
